Dawn of a Mission Renewed – Mission Housing’s 53rd Annual Gala

The Midway was thrilled to host Mission Housing for their 53rd Anniversary Celebration and fundraising gala, “Dawn of a Mission Renewed,” at our San Francisco event venue on September 19th, filling the indoor and outdoor spaces with the vibrant energy of community and cultura. The night featured unforgettable performances from Christian Pepin y su Orquesta Bembe, Mariachi Bonitas de Dinorah Klinger, and Cathia and Edgardo Cambon y su Orquesta Candela.

Mission Housing proudly recognized three Quezada: Spirit of the Colibri Award recipients, including 20-year Mission Housing Staff member and community leader, Martin Ugarte, Forest Hill Christian Church, and District 9’s Board of Supervisor, Hillary Ronen – all whose dedication to community, particularly in the realm of affordable housing, has inspired countless people across San Francisco. The event was uplifted with generous sponsors, of whom raised close to $360,000, and vendors, whose unwavering support has formed the backbone of events like this, including a silent auction with Accion Latina. Their commitment has allowed affordable housing advocates to continue celebrating the culture of La Mision and foster community spirit in the pursuit of affordable housing for low-income families across San Francisco.

Since 1971, Mission Housing Development Corporation has provided affordable housing options to residents of San Francisco. Now, Mission Housing is one of the largest nonprofit housing organizations in San Francisco, owning or managing 35 buildings. The organization currently serves some 3,000 residents in 1,600 units, with an additional 1,000 100% affordable rental units in development.

Credits for putting on this amazing event include event planning by Michelle Barrionuevo-Mazzini of MB Creative, Digit Sounds for A/V, Standard Event Rentals for furniture, and Rare Sparrow for florals. On-site vendors included Jenny’s Churros, Lobos Ice Cream, and Golden Star Photobooth.
