Upscale Conf returned to San Francisco on June 3–4, bringing together designers, filmmakers, artists, marketers, founders, technologists, and AI builders for two days of conversations about the future of creative work.

Hosted by Magnific at The Midway, the conference explored how artificial intelligence is changing design, storytelling, content creation, filmmaking, branding, and creative workflows.

More importantly, it brought together the people actively experimenting with those changes.

From oversized stage visuals and branded outdoor installations to sponsor activations, workshops, rooftop conversations, and evening networking, Upscale Conf felt intentionally designed around exploration rather than simply attendance.

A Different Kind of AI Conference

Many AI conferences focus on models, infrastructure, and engineering.

Upscale Conf focused on what happens after the technology reaches creators.

The audience included designers, creative directors, filmmakers, agency leaders, artists, founders, developers, and product teams looking to understand how AI is reshaping the way creative work gets done.

Throughout the event, attendees moved between presentations, workshops, demonstrations, and networking opportunities while exploring both the opportunities and challenges that come with new creative tools.

The result was a conference that felt as much about creativity and experimentation as it did about technology.

Using The Midway as a Creative Campus

Rather than relying on a traditional ballroom format, Upscale Conf spread programming, networking, activations, and hospitality throughout The Midway campus.

The Midway’s largest event room, Ride, served as the primary keynote space, anchored by a massive presentation screen that created an immersive setting for speakers and attendees. Additional presentations and sessions took place in Gods & Monsters, while CarreSel hosted sponsor activations and interactive experiences throughout the conference.

The Gallery became a central gathering space for coffee service, food, exhibitor booths, and informal networking, creating a steady flow of activity between sessions. Throughout the venue, attendees also utilized offices, lounges, and breakout spaces for meetings, conversations, and collaboration.

Outside, the campus came alive with branded installations, gathering spaces, and sponsor experiences that extended the conference beyond the presentation rooms. The Patio hosted a DJ-powered reception while attendees moved between indoor and outdoor environments throughout the day. A sponsored rooftop lounge provided another destination for conversations, networking, and community building.

The result felt less like a convention and more like a creative festival built around learning, discovery, and connection.

A Conference Designed for Interaction

One of the more interesting aspects of Upscale Conf was how much activity happened outside the presentation rooms.

Attendees gathered around sponsor demonstrations, exchanged ideas over coffee in the Gallery, met between sessions on the Patio, and continued conversations in lounges and breakout spaces across the campus.

That format reflects a broader shift among AI, design, and creative industry conferences. While keynote content remains important, organizers increasingly recognize that some of the most valuable moments happen between sessions rather than during them.

In many ways, Upscale Conf showed why every modern conference needs a strong conference third space: a dedicated environment that is not the keynote room, not the sponsor floor, and not a breakout session, but a place where attendees can gather, reset, talk, and build relationships throughout the day.

The ability to move naturally between content, networking, hospitality, and hands-on experiences created a more dynamic attendee experience than a traditional conference schedule alone.

Workshops, Conversation, and Community

One of the defining characteristics of Upscale Conf was the emphasis on participation.

Attendees weren’t simply sitting through presentations. They were discussing workflows, testing new ideas, sharing projects, and exchanging perspectives with others navigating similar changes in their industries.

As AI continues to evolve, many attendees came not only to learn about the latest tools, but also to better understand how creative professionals are adapting in real-world environments.

Those conversations often continued long after sessions ended. For many attendees, the opportunity to meet peers facing similar challenges was just as valuable as the formal programming itself.

Why Events Like Upscale Conf Matter

Creative industries are entering a period of significant change.

Designers, filmmakers, marketers, agencies, publishers, and content creators are all evaluating how AI fits into their work. New tools are emerging rapidly, workflows are evolving, and best practices are still being defined.

Events like Upscale Conf provide a place for those communities to learn from one another, compare experiences, and explore what’s possible together.

By bringing together people from different disciplines and perspectives, the conference created opportunities for learning, collaboration, and discovery that simply cannot be replicated online.

Looking Ahead

Upscale Conf 2026 highlighted both the excitement and the possibility surrounding the future of creative work.

As AI continues to reshape industries, conferences like this will play an increasingly important role in helping creators, technologists, founders, and innovators learn from one another and explore new possibilities together.

Upscale Conf also offered a glimpse into how conference design is evolving. As attendees increasingly seek workshops, peer learning, networking, and hands-on experiences alongside traditional presentations, organizers are rethinking how events are structured and how venues are utilized. Many of these shifts are explored further in our article on how conference design is evolving for the AI era.

For The Midway, it was a privilege to host a community dedicated to pushing the boundaries of creativity, technology, and human imagination.

We look forward to seeing where the conversation goes next.
